The Hermitage
This Norman manor out of stones and timbers was initially built in the 17th Century.
But the story has it that the king Saint Louis came to this remote place to pray when he stayed at Vernon, and that he founded a monastery here as early as 1260.
The wall enclosed garden testifies of the previous religious use of the property.
The building was in ruins when Ariane and Alain bought it a few years ago.
They have been spending their free time restoring it ever since, favouring the use of ancient or traditional materials to preserve its authenticity.

Environment
The estate is built against the hill in front of a pasture. A grassy lane leads to the riverside, a nice place for a picnic.
The Guest Rooms
Two rooms are at your disposal in the eastern wing, which is the most comfortable part of the house, the main building being still under inside restoration.
Each room has got its own access opening directly onto the garden.
Breakfasts are served in the rooms.
You can relax in the 5000 m2 garden.

Located on the ground floor, this large bedroom of about 35 m2 has exposed beams. It can accommodate two or three adults or a family with children.
It is equipped with a large en suite bathroom and a small cloakroom entrance.
The lovely hand painted birds on the furniture gave their name to this suite, decorated with delicacy.
In the Summer time you will appreciate the natural conditioning of the thick stone walls.
